PROBLEM
The majority of Americans who attended college say they received a quality education. But half would change at least one of the following decisions if they could do it all over again: the type of degree they pursued or their choice of major or institution.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
UX UI Designer, User Research
November 2020 - December 2020
Tools Used : Figma, Miro, Trello
OVERVIEW
According to Gallup Survey: Only 11% of students had sought guidance from a high school guidance counselor, and 28% from a college adviser. Most did not think the advice was especially helpful.
Guidance counselors and parents are not providing the best insight for prospective college students in their college search. They are in need of a tool that will help identify colleges that best suit their social, educational, and financial needs.

USER RESEARCH
After analyzing all the feedback from the user interviews and conducting a competitive analysis I was able to identify a core group of features for such an app.

I interviewed 4 people. 3 of them have attended a post-secondary education and 1 of them was a prospective college student going through the application process.
Findings :
All users noted that they would like for the app to know their individual needs academically and personally
3 users stated that it would be nice to see details about all of the colleges their interested in one centralized location
All users stated that they would like to be matched with the colleges that best suit their needs.

USER PERSONA
After compiling and analyzing the data, I was able to create our user persona- Sylvia Hernandez. Sylvia is a high school senior in Tampa. She is a very driven student and has a strong passion for the arts. Both her parents are very involved in her life and they're encouraging her to go to med school. She isn't sure if that is the choice for her. She would love to learn about what school options are out there that meet her needs and offers courses in what she's actually interested in.

USER FLOW
Before getting into the usability test, I created the ideal flow of how a user should go through the app. This would give us an idea if any pain-points are brought up during the usability test.

USABILITY TESTING
To conduct an in-depth usability test with new users, I outlined detailed documentation where I determined the 5W’s.
This helped me create a prompt that focused on the problem I was trying to solve - creating a tool that will help prospective students find the school of their dreams.

REFLECTION
Grow
This was my first UX/UI project and after completing it I realized how important it is to never stop growing and evolving. There is always room for improvement in a world that is quickly evolving!

Practice
These skills do not grow over night and as someone that is transitioning into the world of UX/UI with no background in technology I need to constantly work on my craft. Practice makes perfect !

Properly articulating design decisions
One of the most important roles as a designer is how you communicate with other people, whether that is with team members or stakeholders. The better you can articulate your design decisions to others, the better the design will come out.
